About the Role:

Successful pricing outcomes are fundamental to the achievement of Astellas’s commercial objectives and the evolving, complex pharmaceutical payer environment, this makes Global Pricing a critical function within Astellas. Reporting to the Head of Strategic Pricing, this role will support the development of Astellas’ technical and strategic pricing capabilities through delivery, embedding and maintenance of strategic pricing objectives through our corporate Value Gene initiative.

Key activities are noted below:

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative, industry-leading approaches to price strategy development across Astellas broad product portfolio, supporting the transformation of Astellas’s pricing capabilities.
  • Capabilities may include:
  • Evidence Based Pricing; Innovative price financing; Patient Access Initiatives; Global Competitive Contracting (GCC); Gross to Net (G2N) management; Combination Asset pricing
  • Collaborate with affiliates and stakeholders to drive the use of novel pricing approaches (such as G2N and GCC) to identify opportunities to stem value leakage; establish best practice; make recommendations resulting in tangible improvements to the P&L.
  • Lead workshops, identify opportunities, generate solutions and work across markets to drive value from these solutions.
  • Monitor and track results from innovative capabilities such as increased ability to win affiliate tender competitions, provide greater access to our medicines and drive commercial growth.
  • Design and develop supporting processes, ways of working and systems to execute new pricing capabilities across affiliates. 
  • Scale-up the adoption of new capabilities among affiliates across Astellas global business by piloting and applying novel concepts in collaboration with project teams
  • Manage multiple project workstreams; integrate new capabilities into existing ways of working; monitor and report progress to stakeholders, ensuring smooth transition of new capabilities to BAU status.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders across a wide range of functions ensuring
  • co-creation and continued project support
  • Act as internal consultant and SME on implementation of innovative pricing approaches across pipeline brands (especially transformative stem cell and gene therapies).
  • Commission/manage 3rd party vendors on strategic pricing research or consultancy projects

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Solid pricing experience from within a global pharmaceutical organisation from within a major affiliate, global or regional role with a good understanding of Market Access
  • Strong understanding/experience of working with different payer environments; drivers for reimbursement & value-based access
  • Able to demonstrate experience of developing and monitoring pricing approaches with database and KPI management. Clear understanding of different pricing approaches across countries, value-based pricing and price negotiations
  • Able to work across regions to develop global pricing policies and respective governance
  • Experience & Understanding of international reference pricing and tendering systems
  • Solid leadership skills able to exercise influence in decision making process among diverse functional & geographical areas & at all levels of management. 
  • Able to think strategically identifying operational trends and activities and relate their impact to the “bigger” strategic picture.
  • Strong communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English


  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, finance, marketing/business administration or related field.
