About This Job:


Astellas is currently hiring a Business Unit Director to be based in Cairo, Egypt. The role will be reporting directly to the General Manager, Egypt.


Purpose of the Position:


  • Lead the Affiliate Commercial teams, including Sales Managers, District Managers, Field force teams (Product Specialists & Medical Reps) and Product Managers, to deliver a best-in-industry customer offer in Egypt.
  • Partner with the Regional (MEA) Head of Operational Excellence to lead on the standardisation, harmonisation and implementation of capability, processes, technology, and platforms across the Affiliate.
  • Ensure the Field force resource/framework is fit-for-purpose, monitoring and identifying requirements, taking action to reallocate resources as required and work closely with the relevant stakeholders in Human Resources and Operational Excellence to develop the performance, development & quality of the Field Force Teams.
  • Attract and develop talent, managing performance and co-creating/implementing capability plans to grow high performing teams, ensuring sustainability of business performance through short and mid-term succession planning.
  • Drive a culture of Ethics and Compliance, ensuring Integrity in Action is actively applied in all initiatives and proactively address non-compliance.
  • Ensure collaboration between the Commercial/Medical functions, particularly through support of the Brand Team model, partnering with the Affiliate Medical Lead to resolve cross-functional strategy, operations or behaviour issues.
  • Lead the pipeline product launch readiness activity, working closely with the Affiliate Market Access Lead.
  • Responsible for ensuring sales targets in the country are achieved, managed in line with budget of SG&A in the Commercial department, proactively proposing actions to mitigate potential risks and allocate resources/activities to achieve annual, as well as medium term, financial goals.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:


  • Substantial international experience in a commercial leadership role in Pharma sector with strong patient/customer focus, in multi-disciplinary, matrix and global context, including time spent progressively as a country Product Marketing Manager, Key Account Manager and Regional/National Sales Manager.
  • Preferably knowledgeable within Urology or Oncology.
  • Significant experience of implementing commercial strategy, managing €multi-million budgets and achieving exceptional results in product launches, revenue and market share growth.
  • Operational experience of marketing, product communication and multi-brand management at national level.
  • Proven leader, growing successful, diverse, high-performing multi-disciplined remote teams, developing individual, team and organisational capability, working experience abroad (outside Egypt) is a plus.
  • Track record of leading and embedding major cultural/organisational change initiatives, including Healthcare Compliance, across geography/region, incorporating cross-cultural perspectives to address challenging situations.
  • Post-graduate qualification such as MBA and/or MSc or equivalent is highly desirable
  • Evidenced experience of successfully leveraging external partnerships to open new commercial opportunities.
