About This Job

The speciality medicine Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will act as a role model within the team in terms of core MSL skills, capabilities and scientific expertise.  Supporting the development of the strategic and tactical plans for engagement with the medical/scientific community, facilitating and gathering insights, disseminating new data and act as expert to medical/scientific learning solutions.

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Proactively identifying unmet needs to deepen Astellas’ understanding of the customer needs (patients, consumers, regulators, payers etc).
  • Contributing to the strengthening of Astellas’ key medical messages, and future plans for development.
  • You will identify and critically assesses research opportunities and plays a supportive role in the execution of evidence generation plans.
  • Support and lead by example, excellence in execution of all governance processes thus demonstrating understanding of operations.
  • MSLs have robust up-to-date scientific knowledge.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as an internal team mentor and coach for MSLs in core aspects of the MSL role, including therapeutic & product knowledge, stakeholder strategy & planning and stakeholder engagement (inc engagement skills such as MedACE).
  • Identify KEEs in alignment with Medical Strategy and develop and maintain professional relationships with Key External Experts (KEE). Providing support to and engage in scientific exchange with KEEs.
  • Identify and recommend KEEs as advisors for Scientific Meetings.
  • Direct investigator(s) to ISR portal upon receiving an unsolicited ISR support request, and provide support on use of portal. Communicate with investigator(s) as appropriate and provide overview for the overall ISR process.
  • Identify investigators and recommending sites for Medical Affairs and/or Development sponsored studies upon request from M&D and engage with Investigators about their research capabilities as appropriate.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Solid experience as an MSL within speciality medicine.
  • Experience and proven expertise of reimbursement launch and KOL management within the Therapy Area.
  • Exceptional medical and pharmacological knowledge in the main indication.
  • Detailed knowledge of health care structures and processes in the hospitals.
  • Sound knowledge of health politics

 Preferred Knowledge & Experience

·       Experience as an MSL within Renal, Cardiovascular or Diabetes.


·       Master’s degree in a health-related science

·       PhD (preferred but not essential)
