The Opportunity:
As a Therapeutic Area, Lead Medical Affairs (MSL) professional, you will play a vital role in executing our medical strategy at field level through high-quality, compliant scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and key external experts. You will build trusted scientific partnerships, generate valuable medical insights, and support the safe and appropriate use of Astellas products across their lifecycle. You will be responsible for implementing the medical strategy (Core Medical Plan) within the Oncology therapeutic area. This includes coordinating and executing medical and scientific activities to:
- understand the local external environment and identify data gaps;
- translate insights into strategies and activities; and
- ensure that key stakeholders receive the information they need to support the safe and appropriate use of Astellas products.
You demonstrate matrix leadership by building strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Medical Affairs activities meet local needs and strengthen the medical and scientific understanding of Astellas products throughout their lifecycle. You engage external stakeholders to advance scientific knowledge of compounds in development, support the safe and effective use of Astellas products, and deepen understanding of relevant disease areas. You work closely with key internal stakeholders, including affiliate brand teams, to help achieve the affiliate’s business objectives.

Key Activities for this role:
- Act as a trusted scientific partner for peer-to-peer exchange with Key External Experts (KEEs) and other relevant healthcare stakeholders.
- Engage in scientific discussions on disease areas, products, emerging data, and evolving treatment paradigms to support safe and effective use of Astellas products.
- Execute approved medical field activities aligned with the affiliate Core Medical Plan, including scientific exchange, medical education initiatives, and launch-related medical support.
- Gather, document, and communicate actionable medical insights from the field to internal stakeholders to inform Medical Affairs and cross-functional planning.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across Medical Affairs and other functions (e.g. Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Regulatory), while maintaining clear role boundaries and compliance.
- Maintain a high level of scientific and clinical expertise in the therapeutic area and local healthcare environment.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with prior experience in Medical Affairs or a scientific exchange role.
- Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
- Comfort working in a matrix, cross-functional environment.
- Fluency in Romanian and English.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively in line with this field-based role.
Preferred Knowledge & Experience:
- MD, PhD, or PharmD qualification.
- Experience in Oncology therapeutic areas.
Education:
- Master’s degree in a health-related science..
Additional Information:
- Type of role full-time permanent.
- Location Romania office (Bucharest).
- This position is field based in Romania, covering the eastern and southern regions of the country, including Bucharest, with approximately 80% travel expected in line with the role.
