The Opportunity:
As the Legal Commercial Counsel, Commercial Transformations, Affiliate Engagement, Manufacturing & Supply Chain, you will have overall responsibility for the full range of legal support and effective management of legal risks for commercial supply-related activities of the Technology & Manufacturing Functional Unit (“T&M") in the Established and International region.
Also in this position, you will support other commercial transactions, including strategic commercial transformation projects (including divestments, and product discontinuations) in the Established and International Commercial regions.

Key Activities for this role:
- Serve as the strategic legal partner to T&M for commercial manufacturing and supply activities in the Established and International regions, to help drive innovation and to further business objectives in a risk-balanced manner. This includes being the legal partner for our manufacturing sites in Ireland as well as all manufacturing-related strategic support, including the construction of a new manufacturing site in Tralee, Ireland, and all manufacturing related strategic projects.
- Review, analyze and keep current on legal developments affecting the pharmaceutical industry and prevailing best practice recommendations in relevant matters especially in the area of pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain management and advise clients accordingly
- Draft, negotiate, and execute a broad range of complex commercial agreements, including contract manufacturing master agreements, manufacturing-related IP and material license agreements, testing service agreements, engineering agreements, construction service agreements, purchase agreements, commercial supply agreements, quality agreements, and services agreements for supply chain vendors.
- Serve as an additional key legal support to facilitate engagement and enablement of Legal colleagues supporting our affiliate activities, coordinating and aligning strategies of the Legal Towers with the Commercial Legal leads in the affiliate markets to ensure that the global legal strategy is implemented as effectively as possible.
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Experience gained with life sciences team in a law firm, or in house experience within the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of key business, legal and compliance issues within pharma and life science industry.
- Experience in working in multi-functional, cross-cultural teams.
- Strong ability to grasp legal issues quickly, strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills, exercise sound judgment and provide practical and constructive legal advice in a time-sensitive dynamic and fast paced complex global environment.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to communicate legal issues in a clear and understandable manner.
- A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism and demonstrated passion for excellence.
Education/Qualifications:
- Degree In Law, fully qualified attorney or equivalent.
Additional Information:
- This is a permanent position in United Kingdom.
- This position follows our hybrid working model. Role requires a blend of home and a minimum of once per quarter in our Regional or Affiliate Astellas office. Flexibility may be required in line with business needs. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office.
