Reporting directly to the Engineering Projects & Systems Lead, the Systems Engineer will work within a systems team helping to design and implement the automation systems for the site and will oversee the day-to-day operations of autonomous systems, responsible for plant readiness, operation, maintenance, and optimization.

About This Job

  • Responsible for reliable and robust system design to meet business and process requirements for a Process Control System (DCS and PLC/SCADA) and vendor packaged equipment including integration to both upstream and downstream systems such as Filling Line, Utilities, MES, Data Historian etc.
  • Coordination of Design team and automation systems’ vendors to achieve successful implementation of the site automation systems.
  • Creation, review, and approval of Automation/OT aspects of project deliverables, such as Schedules, User Requirements, Design Documents, IQ/OQ/FAT Protocols for L2 Systems ranging from Standalone Lab Equipment to Aseptic Filling Line.
  • Attend and Support Qualification and Validation activities.
  • Development of site procedures for the administration and maintenance of all relevant systems.
  • Configure Network Parameters (IP Address, DNS etc.) and Test communication between various systems over relevant Firewall Ports.
  • Create System Server and Network Requirements Documentation and coordinate the timely delivery of such with the IT Department.
  • Participate in Vendor and System Assessments.
  • Operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimisation of the plant’s automation systems.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Third level qualification in Information Systems, engineering, or other relevant Technical/Engineering discipline.
  • Industry experience in a similar role within life sciences industry.
  • Successful candidate must have a strong technical aptitude, with excellent problem-solving skills, working in a cross functional team.
  • Demonstrated flexible attitude and a willingness to learn new tasks/technology/upskill.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, able to work proactively without direct supervision, continuous improvement mindset.
  • Demonstrated CQV and full SDLC experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in troubleshooting PLC/DCS controllers and I/O faults.
  • Experience in design and implementation of DCS and PLC/SCADA platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Automation and IT platforms and infrastructure.
  • Excellent understanding of ISA-95, ISA-88 standards.
  • Experience in OT Networks Design, Configuration and Testing.
  • Experience in L2 - L3 System Integration Projects.

Preferred Knowledge & Experience

  • Implementation of DCS or PLC/SCADA system for a Drug Product, aseptic Fill-Finish facility.
  • Experience of L3 & L4 systems, such as MES, OSI PI, etc.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and emerging technologies, such as Digital Twin, xR, AI, etc.

  • 20% travel (domestic and International)
  • This is a permanent role.
  • Based at manufacturing plant Tralee.
  • This role is onsite.
