Astellas’ Global Capability Centres - Overview

Astellas’ Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are strategically located sites that give Astellas the ability to access talent across various functions in the value chain and to co-locate core capabilities that are currently dispersed. Our three GCCs are located in India, Poland and Mexico.
The GCCs will enhance our operational efficiency, resilience and innovation potential, enabling a timely response to changing business demands.

Location and Working Environment

Location: Warsaw, Poland - hybrid

This is a permanent role based in our Global Capability Centre in Warsaw, Poland and hybrid working with the expectation for some office presence. Flexibility may be required in line with business needs. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office.

Purpose & Scope

  • As an EHS & Sustainability Professional, you will play a key role in shaping and advancing the organisation's global Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) agenda. Reporting to the Head of EHS&S, you will lead the development of enterprise-wide frameworks, standards, governance approaches, and capability-building initiatives that enable consistent execution across international markets. This strategic role requires the ability to influence senior stakeholders, drive organisational change, strengthen governance and risk management practices, and ensure the business is well-positioned to meet evolving regulatory, sustainability, and reporting expectations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of enterprise EHS&S frameworks, standards, governance and ways of working to drive consistent execution.
  • Partner with the Head of EHS&S to translate strategic priorities, organisational goals and OKRs into enterprise standards, priorities and capability-building initiatives.
  • Build organisational capability in environmental sustainability, health and safety, compliance, risk management, incident prevention and safety culture through guidance and training.
  • Own and enhance the EHS&S data governance framework, ensuring data quality, controls, documentation and reporting integrity.
  • Interpret EHS&S regulations and emerging requirements, translating them into enterprise standards, guidance and assurance processes.
  • Define and maintain the enterprise approach to EHS&S risk identification, assessment, prioritisation and escalation.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture by promoting safe behaviours, incident learning and employee engagement.
  • Establish expectations for incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and recurrence prevention.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally to embed EHS&S standards, accountability and consistent business practices.
  • Identify industry trends, best practices and innovation opportunities to strengthen EHS&S maturity and organisational resilience.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Sustainability, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in EHS, sustainability, governance, compliance, risk management, assurance, or related corporate functions.
  • Proven experience developing enterprise-wide frameworks, standards, or governance models in a global organisation.
  • Strong understanding of EHS&S regulations, sustainability reporting, risk management, data governance, and assurance practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex topics clearly to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and/or relevant professional certifications in EHS, sustainability, compliance, or risk management.
  • Experience driving organisational capability-building, training programmes, or communities of practice at an international level.
  • Japanese language skills would be considered an asset.
