Location and Working Environment
This is a local UK affiliate position and requires onsite presence two days per week at our Bourne office in London, UK. The role is offered on a hybrid basis.

Purpose & Scope

  • The Market Access Lead will be responsible for the development and implementation of the local Market Access Strategy (including pricing, reimbursement regional policy and patient access) for the Astellas product portfolio, being responsible for developing and executing strategies that ensure patients, healthcare professionals, and payers have timely and sustainable access to the company’s pharmaceutical products.
  • This role involves navigating the complex regulatory and healthcare environment to optimize pricing, reimbursement, and market entry strategies while aligning with broader business goals. Understand and evaluate trends in the healthcare environment and ensure understanding of future country organization demands in terms of market access
  • The Market Access Lead reports to the General Manager and is a member of the affiliate management team.

Role and Responsibilities

Market Access Strategy:
Develop and implement comprehensive market access strategies for our products, ensuring alignment with commercial, medical, and regulatory teams.
Develops and implements strategy to ensure patient access to current and future brands including inputs to global strategy development.
Pricing and Reimbursement:
Lead the development of pricing and reimbursement strategies for new and existing products, ensuring optimal access while maintaining competitive advantage.
Provides strategic leadership to the development of local reimbursement dossiers for all payors (public and private).
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare providers, payers, patient advocacy groups, and regulatory bodies to facilitate market access.
Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR): Collaborate with HEOR teams to generate evidence and value propositions that support reimbursement negotiations and demonstrate the clinical and economic benefits of the products.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all market access activities comply with local and international regulations, pricing laws, and ethical standards.

Continued: Role and Responsibilities
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams such as commercial, medical affairs, regulatory, and finance to ensure market access strategies align with broader company objectives.
Data Analysis: Analyse market trends, payer policies, and competitive landscapes to identify opportunities and risks in market access. Assessment of the external landscape to identify anticipated payer evidence needs to support differentiation and optimal reimbursement. Integration of payer evidence needs to the Clinical Development; including identification of potential evidence gaps and mitigating steps to address (and / or communication of consequences of failure).
Value Proposition Development: Develop clear and compelling value propositions for products, ensuring alignment with payer needs, patient outcomes, and healthcare system demands. Lead the development of appropriate programs, tools, payer value proposition, potential alternative contracting models, payer objection handler and communication-materials to effectively address payer and market access needs to render informed coverage decisions.
Negotiation and Contracting: Lead negotiations with payers and government bodies to secure favourable pricing and reimbursement conditions.
Market Access Materials: Develop and deliver market access materials such as dossiers, presentations, and communication tools that support product positioning with payers and healthcare decision-makers consistent with Brand positioning and messaging.
Monitoring and Reporting: Continuously monitor access performance, payer decisions, and reimbursement outcomes, providing regular updates and reports to senior leadership.
Lead strategic account management through comprehensive understanding of customers’ needs, implement tactical plan and respective performance indicators to support Astellas brands growth.
People Management: proven experience in managing and developing high-performing teams. This includes the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a diverse group of professionals, while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Extensive experience in market access, health economics, pricing, or reimbursement in the high-cost products industries/companies in the UK business
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of healthcare systems, payer environments, and regulatory requirements.
Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical reimbursement and pricing issues, policies and trends.
High level of independence and resilience.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, economics, life sciences, or equivalent.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

An advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or PharmD) is preferred.
Experience working in global or regional market access roles.
Strong network within the healthcare industry, including payers, regulatory agencies, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
Demonstrated success in securing pricing and reimbursement for innovative therapies.
Expertise in developing value-based healthcare models.
